packing material time lapse

I just got a new sectional from HanImports.com and it came with a boatload of packing material. I cut it up into a bunch of smaller pieces and then packed it into one of its own bags.

Local Sound construction timeline 01/24/09 - 03/14/09

I spent yesterday helping my brother at Local Sound Studio in Salt Lake. We put up some insulation and then put up drywall on one of the main walls. Mark is also keeping a record of this project on his Posterous blog. I'm still trying to figure out what the best way is to edit all of this stuff together and post it on the web is. I really want to get it figured out before IA Summit next week since I hope to capture some cool media there as well.

This is first video was taken over the span of about 9 hours while we worked. I posted it to Viddler and then made some notes along the bottom. The beginning and end shots are panoramics that I stitched together before and after.

I created this with Windows Movie Maker which seems to be a very simple way to get video from one place to another with minor complication.

I created this with Picasa and posted it to YouTube using the upload function from within Picasa. This seemed to have less functionality than Windows Media Maker but it was much easier to use.

Las Vegas February 2009

We had a great weekend in Vegas. Here are some of the pics and video.

I think the jumping picture is gonna be a new Vegas tradition.

2009 02 08 (102)a

We left Utah about 7:30pm on Friday and pulled into Vegas about 1am. Steph got a great deal on a room at Sam's Town on Expedia. The next morning we got to the Tix4Tonight line at about 8:45am. They have awesome deals on all the shows and dinner but you have to get there early to beat the line and the tickets are only good for that night. We got tickets to take the boys to see Gregory Popovich at Planet Hollywood that night.

After getting our tickets we headed back to Sam's Town and went to the arcade. Josh won over 900 tickets and Xander 'almost' won a PSP about 15 times. Josh cashed his tickets for some army guys, a magnetic beard cowboy game, and a bunch of candy.

After that we headed to The V Theater at Planet Hollywood to see the show. It was a great show. Lots of animals and juggling and funny clown-type stuff.

After the show we headed down Las Vegas Boulevard because I wanted to capture a time-lapse of the entire strip beginning to end. I wish I would have taken a picture of the tripod setup that I had in the tiny PT Cruiser. I had the two front legs strattled over the radio and heater controls and the rear leg stretched back into the cupholder between the seats.

I captured this first clip on Saturday night as we drove North on the strip starting at the Fabulous Las Vegas sign and ending at the Stratosphere. I tried to position the camera low through the windshield to capture more of the hotels and scenery and less of the traffic.

I captured the second clip on Sunday from as we drove South from the Stratosphere to the Fabulouls Las Vegas sign where we got out and took the jumping picture at the top of this post.

We had a huge dinner buffet at Sam's Town on Saturday night. It was the only meal that we paid for the entire weekend.

We got an early start on Sunday morning and headed south on Las Vegas Boulevard so that I could capture the other side of the strip on time-lapse to the way Fabulous Las Vegas sign on the south end. The boys took a great 'jumping' picture at the sign. On Sunday morning it was time to go to Chinatown for pork buns. We always stop for pork buns before we drive home. They make for good snacking on the drive. Little did we know that Chinese New Year celebrations were still going on there and the traffic was crazy and parking was impossible. I dropped Steph and Xander off at the bakery and drove around the block. Steph grabbed the last 4 buns and we headed home. We usually buy a whole lot more but it just wasn't meant to be this trip.

I captured a small part of the 6 hour drive home just because it was dusk and I wanted to see what the sunset transition looked like. This capture is from somewhere south of Parowan, UT until Fillmore, UT.

I also made a blog post on I-15 at 85mph from my phone about the road trip essentials. Isn't the internet great?

We got home about 9pm that night. Grabbed the dog from my brother's house and went home.

Great weekend. Looking forward to doing this more often.

Time Lapse Videos

I have been having a great time putting the new camera to the test. One neat thing that it can do is take time-lapse videos. Here are the tests that I have put together so far since Christmas:

New Year's Eve dinner
Every year we all get together at Bachan's house for a great New Year's Eve dinner. Bachan's kitchen hasn't changed as much as the rest of the house has over the years so I thought it would make a cool video to put the camera on top of the fridge and let it run while everyone came in out for dinner (and seconds, and thirds)

Cooking Zoni soup on New Year's Day
Every year we go to Mom's house for Zoni soup to start the New Year right. This is always the first meal of the year. The soup takes some time to make so I setup the camera and let it run while the soup cooked. Again lots of people in and out of the kitchen stopping by the pot to check progress. Lots of chopping, stirring, tasting, and talking.

Eating Zoni soup on New Year's Day
After it's cooked the soup goes on the table and everyone gets their share. Eat til you're sick and have some great socializing during and after. This is my favorite holiday of the entire year.

Drive to Wendover
There happened to be an extra Friday after New Year's this year so we decided to drive to Wendover, NV to play some Blackjack and make some bets on the Sugar Bowl since the University of Utah was playing. I set the camera on the dashboard and let it run. The drive to Wendover, NV is about 115 miles from Herriman, UT

Unloading Furniture
My brother runs an importing business called HanImports in Salt Lake City. Every few months he gets a 53 foot trailer of furniture from China. I setup the camera to watch the furniture fill up the warehouse but then changed my mind that there was more action at the back of the trailer with the ramp so I moved it about halfway through and let it run

21st South to 106th South
I just set the camera on the dashboard for the drive from 21st South to 106th South just for the heck of it. This time from the truck so the perspective might have been a bit different, and it was raining.
