My boys say funny things

Both of my boys came home from camp activities with the youth groups with funny things to say:

Xander went to scout camp at Causey Reservoir all week:

Xander: "Hey Dad, I'm home!"

Me: "Ahh good, how was it?"

Xander: "Good"

Me: "What did you do?"

Xander: "Well I can tell what I DIDNT do ...shower!"

Josh went boating on Thursday and then to a cabin in Castledale then hiking above Silver Lake Flat today:

Josh: "Dad, I'm home."

Me: "Ahh cool, so how was it?"

Josh: "Awesome. I went on a hike that cannot be described without the use of Google Maps."

'Inception' movie trailer mashups

I saw 'Inception' today. An excellent movie. Last week, I saved a link that someone tweeted to the first mashup below. I stumbled upon the other 2 after that.

And the original:

I also saw this inforgraphic last week. It makes much more sense after I've seen the movie :)

July 24th Weekend 2010

We had a great BBQ at my Auntie and Uncle's property in Marion. The boys had fun shooting the guns. The most fun was shooting Kurt's AR-15

Obon 2010 Salt Lake City, Utah

The annual Obon festival was last weekend at the Salt Lake Buddhist Temple. We try to go every year as a tradition. It's always fun to see all of the colorful kimonos and watch the dancing the we used to do when we were younger.

I'm trying to post these from my phone while I lay here sick in bed. Forgive me if the formatting is off, I'll fix it later.

Obon always starts with the Ogden Taiko Drum group doing their awesome demonstration. This video does no justice since you have to be there to feel the drums as they build momentum in the pieces.

After the drums, it's on to the dancing. Reverend Hirano leads the group into the circle to the Obon no Uta song. this year they had to do it three times because there were so many dancers. I might be wrong but I think they also made circle bigger this year extending further down 200 South St.

The last three songs are open for audience participation, which we always do. I have these songs and their dances memorized. It makes me happy to stand out there next to my Mom, my sister, my boys, and neices and nephews and pass down the Obon tradition to another generation.

And then, Obon ends just as it began with the whole crowd dancing to the same Obon no Uta song.

Tweet Defense

Tweet Defense is a pretty good tower defense game for iPhone. I'm not sure what tweeting or Twitter has to do with it. I never signed because it asked for my password (fail: needs OAuth). On the plus side it's exactly what I've been waiting for from a TD game. Simple: follow the path, put up defenses, upgrade, and kill stuff. This game is just as good as other guaranteed favorites like Tap Defense, GeoDefense, and The Creeps. Here's what they should change:

Take out the Twitter connection. Honestly, who wants to tie their Twitter account to a TD game. I haven't even enabled this "feature" and the game is still awesome. Add an option to turn off the crappy music. No seriously, do it now. It really does suck and it detracts from the awesome dying zombie sounds. Need a faster fast-forward. I was about halfway into an endless level 1 game when I realized I probably should have picked medium or hard. A super fast fast forward could have fixed that. Anyone who plays TD games knows there are times when you are safe and just waiting on money. It's the waiting part that sucks. Last, where's the big bosses? All of this setup and effort just to see the same zombies again and again. Cmon, there's no end game in that.

Overall I'd give the game a solid B+. I downloaded for free yesterday but I'd pay the measly $2.99 for an awesome TD game. Especially if the fixed my complaint list above. Check it out on iTunes here:
